The first day of the Diamond Jubilee celebration started at 5pm, with Their Majesties the King and Queen and members of the Royal Family making their way to the Amarindra Vinitchai Throne Hall in the Grand Palace. Today, the relics of the Chakri Kings, Queens as well as Prince Mahidol and the Princess Mother, the King's parents, came together at the Throne Hall. The ceremony is to pay homage to the Chakri family members. Traditionally, the King presides over such ceremony once a year, during the Thai new year in April. As this year is a very special year, it deems appropriate to repeat the ceremony again, beginning the official Celebration of His Majesty the King's 60th Year on the Throne. Those in attendance included members of the extended royal family, the privy council and government officials. | |
